Prodiamine 65WDG is a water-dispersible granular pre-emergent herbicide produced by Quali-Pro, a leading brand in vegetation control. It is labeled to control various weeds found in turfs and ornamental areas like barnyard grass, carpetweed, goosegrass, and more.
Prodiamine 65WDG's formula works by stunting the development of seeds at the beginning of the germination phase. It will not work against sprouted weeds, but will provide residual control for pre-emergent weeds for up to 6 months. It is ideal for clearing areas around railroads, job sites, utility structures, and more.
    Tools Needed
To apply Prodiamine 65WDG, you will need to mix the product in a backpack or handheld pump sprayer. For larger applications, a professional skid sprayer with a broadcast boom or handheld wand is needed.
    How to Use
    Spraying lawn with Prodiamine
Step 1: For smaller applications, determine how much Prodiamine 65WDG you will need by first measuring the square footage (length x width) of your lawn. Depending on the weed you are trying to control and the turf type, the maximum application rate can range anywhere from 0.185 oz. to 0.83 oz per 1,000 sq. ft per calendar year.
For large applications with a professional spray rig the maximum rate can range anywhere from 0.5 lbs. to 2.30 lbs per acre per calendar year. Prodiamine 65WDG is to be mixed with water and/or liquid fertilizer, which acts as a carrier, at a minimum of 20 gallons per acre or 0.5 gallons per 1,000 square feet.
For example, if you are looking to control crabgrass in St. Augustine grass and measured 2,000 sq. ft. of turf to treat, you will need to apply between 0.72 to 1.66 oz. in one gallon of water to cover the 2,000 sq. ft. of area.
Step 2: Fill the spray tank 1/4 of the way with water or fluid fertilizer only and then begin the agitation process. Add the appropriate amount of Prodiamine 65WDG to the spray tank and then add the rest of the required amount of water. To ensure you prevent wasteful overlap, we recommend also mixing in a marking dye.
Step 3: Make the Prodiamine 65WDG application to desired areas with the spray nozzle on a fan spray setting for even coverage. For established plants, apply as a broadcast, over-the-top, or direct spray. For newly transplanted plants and ornamentals, wait for the soil around the plants to settle and water thoroughly before application.
Agitate the sprayer repeatedly during the entire application process to ensure an efficient spray suspension. Properly clean the spray equipment when completed.
    Where to Use
    Right of way
Prodiamine 65WDG can be applied to established turfgrass, lawns, sod nurseries, container-grown landscape ornamentals, field-grown ornamentals, conifer and hardwood seedling nurseries. It can also be applied to rights-of-way for roads and utilities structures, railroads, and equipment sites.
Do not apply Prodiamine 65WDG to putting greens on golf courses. Do not apply Prodiamine 65WDG to plants that will be used as a food source. Do not apply Prodiamine 65WDG to turfs that are under poor conditions with drought, pest damage, or low fertility.
    When to Use
    Spraying lawn with Prodiamine
For maximum results, apply Prodiamine 65WDG before weeds emerge during spring and fall seasons. Prodiamine 65WDG will not work once weeds have sprouted above the ground, applications must be made before weeds germinate. The best times to apply Prodiamine 65WDG also depend on the targeted weeds, read the product label for specific times.
    Safety Information
Prodiamine 65WDG is safe to use around pets and children when applied according to label directions and after time has been passed for the treated area to completely dry. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment when mixing and applying Prodiamine 65WDG.
    Special Considerations
Prodiamine 65WDG comes in the form of small gold yellowish granules. Prodiamine works best when treated areas receive up to 0.5 inches of water by rainfall or irrigation within 2 weeks after the application.
